Dental Cleaning

Professional teeth cleanings are an important part of preventive care for patients of all ages. Our office offers a recall package which includes a checkup and the dental hygiene. In order to keep your smile bright and healthy, it is crucial that you complete professional dental cleanings, as recommended by your dentist. Most people require professional dental cleanings at least twice a year.

A tooth cleaning is a procedure in which a dental hygienist removes plaque and tartar from the teeth. The hygienist also removes debris from between the teeth and looks for any problems that may require treatment.

During a dental cleaning, the dental hygienist will use specialized tools to remove plaque and tartar from each individual tooth. The teeth will also be flossed, polished, and administered with a fluoride treatment. Most cleanings include a full examination of the teeth. During this exam, we will look for signs of cavities, gum disease, and other problems that require treatment. X-rays may also be necessary to check for hidden issues. If we discover problems during the exam, the patient may schedule the treatment at this time.

How often are dental cleanings necessary?

In general, patients should have dental cleanings once every 6 months - depending on the individual oral status, and on how good you take good care of the teeth at home. Patients should brush and floss twice daily. Patients who have missed several cleanings may need to come more frequently to get caught up.
